Owning a motorcycle is the most important thing that matters to a
guy. Despite the love, lack of sufficient funds may force to change our
decision from buying a new motor cycle to a second hand motorcycle.
While you can straight away buy a new motor cycle with little
inspection, buying a second hand motorcycle requires you to pay
attention for little details. Here we have listed out few things that
are to be kept in mind while buying a second hand motorcycle.
1. Documents.
First and fore most important thing in buying a second hand motorcycle is to
verify the motorcycle documents. It includes
1. Registration
certificate (R.C), Insurance certificate.
2. Pollution under control
certificate.
3. Form 28(Interstate No Objection Certificate if your are taking the bike to
another state-3 copies).
4. Form 29(Notice of transfer of ownership - 2
copies).
5. Form 30 ( Report of transfer of ownership - 1 copy).
6. Form 35( In
case of motorcycle initially purchases through loan),
7. No objection
certificate from Financier,(NOC-3 copies),
8. Address proof of seller (For safety),
9. Sales bill or
receipt.
2.Engine condition.
3.Chasis/frame condition.
The chasis of the
motorcycle should be free from rust. Also chasis number mentioned in the
Registration certificate should match with the number present on
chasis.
4.Tyres.
Avoid buying a motorcycle with wornout tyres, as you have to bear the tyre replacement cost on later time.
5.Fuel tank.
The
fuel tank should be free from rust and major dent marks. Rust in the
fuel tank will clog your fuel pipe and you have to clean the carburetor
more frequently.
6.Smoke from the exhaust.
Smoke
from exhaust tells the condition of the engine. If you observe lot of
dense smoke, then there may be incomplete combustion in the engine(which
is a problem). Also at the end of the exhaust pipe if any oil traces
are there then it may be due to wornout piston rings in the engine
cylinder.
7.Brakes.
Brakes
should work well and smooth. Prolong usage of motorcycle in the cities
will degrade the brake shoes. In that case you have to apply much effort
in halting the motorcycle.
8.Battery and other electricals.
Battery
should have adequate charge in it without which you cannot use
headlights, signal lights, horn, self start etc.,.
Also check the
electicals like switches , horn, headlight, signal lights etc.,
It
is always better to go with a friend who knows much about bikes while
buying a second hand motorcycle. Also go for a test ride to get a good
idea about the motorcycle. Have a happy ride.
